Agreement expands library of Spanish-language content.
Netflix has signed a content licensing agreement with NBCUniversal subsidiary and Spanish language broadcast giant Telemundo.
Specifically, Telemundo’s international division – aptly named “Telemundo Internacional” – will annually provide Netflix with 1,200 hours of programming for non-exclusive, online broadcast in Latin American markets.
Critically for Hispanic telenovela fans, the deal includes Telemundo’s popular La Reina del Sur or “The Queen of the South.”
The deal comes on the heels of similar non-exclusive content licensing agreements between Netflix and other Spanish language broadcasters like TV Azteca and Groupo Televisa. Netflix has actively sought content from these giants of Spanish TV so as to fuel its announced expansion into Central and South American markets.
As with previous Netflix content licensing deals, Netflix is mum on the fiscal details and the duration of the agreement.
